Christmas Presents
Every year we the holidays happen, and every year we have holiday shopping to do. With all the people on our list, this can be an exhausting process. We want to get a great gift for everyone, but this isn’t always easy and we sometimes find ourselves running out of ideas. For adults, we can always get them a gift card, but this doesn’t quite fly when it comes to children. Opening a gift card isn’t nearly as much fun as ripping open the wrapping on a real, personalized present.
So in this article I have some suggestions for great gifts, and how to personalize them. So read on for some good present ideas for children.
Games and Educational Toys
When it comes to gift buying for children, you have the opportunity to help in their development. Buy toys and games that can challenge them, being both fun and educational. For example, get them something like the game of scrabble or an educational video game, (like the old classics of Number Munchers, or Oregon Trail). If you’ve got a toddler age child, get them something that helps in their developmental basics, such as toys that teach them how to read, count, or even to simply distinguish and recognize different colors.
This old favorite is still an awesome idea, and my personal choice for best gift. Children adore stuffed animals. How many kids to you know that have a large collection of plush toys? Walk into any child’s room and you will often find piles and piles of well-worn, well-loved toys. And believe it or not, but you can even make a stuffed animal educational! If you can find a realistic-appearing animal, you can teach the child about the features and appearance of the real live animal in the wild. This can increase their recognition ability, and they’re still fun to play with! stuffed animals are still a very popular toy, and this is owed partly to the popularity of such movies as The Lion King and Madgascar. What child wouldn’t want their very own plush lion to mimic the character’s in the movie? This can also be a great idea if you know the child wants a pet. Get them a stuffed dog or plush cat and tell them they can start practicing taking care of another living creature.
Books, Arts and Crafts
Both books and arts and crafts can be great for increasing a child’s imagination. Books transport them to other places, and teach them new things. Arts and Crafts are a great tool for improving creative skills, and is certainly better than just plunking them down in front of the television, as art tends to be much more interactive. Help them develop their creativity ingenuity and who knows what they could accomplish in the future. Some examples for these types of gifts would be a coloring book or a model airplane.
Clothing
This may seem a conservative choice, but can still be a great, fun gift. Kids are constantly growing, and it’s quite probable that last year’s winter clothing no longer fits. Get them a nice coat or a hooded jacket. Get them something that fits their personality and you may be surprised by how pleased they are. For example, get them a hat and scarf in their favorite colors, or get them a coat that looks like the one that their favorite television character wears.
Candy
Candy and chocolate is pretty much always a safe choice. After all, what child doesn’t like sweets? It may not have the same personal touch that a stuffed animal has, but if you’re not terribly familiar with the child’s likes and dislikes, candy can be a safe choice. Just make sure that the child doesn’t have any food allergies, and of course, make sure that the child’s parents have control of the gift and when they can have it! You wouldn’t want the child to have too much then was good for them or cause friction in the family.
Hopefully these ideas will ease some of your holiday shopping worries. Remember, there are many great gifts available for children, and you’ll enjoy when your gift becomes a hit! When you give a gift that’s both fun and educational, you’ll make everyone happy, and make yourself proud over being able to contribute to a child’s development and potential.
